Ethics and Values in Social Work

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify and examine the nature and historic developments of values in social work, health and social care;
  • Examine and begin to appreciate complex ethical issues, dilemmas and conflicts that might affect professional practice;
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with moral concepts pertaining to freedom, rights, responsibilities, and the use of power in social work practice, health and social care;
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of professional codes of practice and the underpinning importance of philosophical ethics in the resolution of ethical dilemmas;
