Unit 1 How people Learn?

  • Understand the role of empowerment in promoting lifelong learning;
  • Reflect upon the application of different perspectives of learning to your practice of helping others learn;
  • Understand the role of motivation in fostering empowerment of self and others to develop the skills necessary for lifelong learning;
  • Reflect upon factors which promote learning;

Unit 2 Helping people Learn

  • Examine the concept of facilitation in the context of own role of helping people learn;
  • Evaluate the role of the mentor/preceptor in helping people develop lifelong learning skills;
  • Be aware of a variety of approaches to facilitating learning in the practice setting;
  • Demonstrate the principles of planning learning experiences;

Unit 3 Environment in which people learn

  • Be aware of how internal and external factors influence the learning environment;
  • Reflect upon strategies which promote the integration of theory and practice;
  • Analyse issues relating to quality that need to be considered when carrying out an educational audit;

Unit 4 Principles of assessment

  • Explain what is meant by assessment of competence and professional competence;
  • Understand the relationship between professional standards and competence;
  • Describe various types of assessment;
  • Reflect on issues which impact on the assessment process;

Unit 5 Practice of assessing in the workplace

  • Analyse the role of the assessor in promoting fair and accurate assessment;
  • Select appropriate strategies to promote fair and accurate judgement of knowledge and performance evidence;
  • Reflect on ability to apply performance criteria to judging evidence;
  • Recognise the importance of providing feedback and maintaining accurate records of feedback and assessment decisions;
  • Recognise and manage challenging (e.g. the failing student) assessment situations;
